Senior Mechanical Draftsman
Role Overview
The Senior Mechanical Designer will work with other peers and internal company personnel to aid
engineers and the project teams in preparing required designs for the projects. Their duty is to refine the design made by engineers by digitizing the plans. The below details the main responsibilities of the role but are not limited to these.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide layout of Process equipment systems meeting engineering standards using 2D and 3D software packages to produce drawings from concept through construction issue.
- Design and Model piping systems including supports using 3D modeling software. Autodesk Plant3D preferred.
- Generate Piping design and detailed drawings including General Layouts, Piping Orthographic, Isometrics and Pipe Support Details utilizing 2D and 3D modeling software.
- Coordinate designs with other team members and with other engineering disciplines in the design of Client facilities.
- Develop and/or modify Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) in conjunction with discipline engineers
- Examine and validate drawings for quality and compliance.
- Examine, validates, and coordinate other discipline designs for compliance with layouts.
- Work with laser scanning vendors to get “as-built” information and work into design.
- Visit Client plant sites to evaluate design options, work with clients in the design and planning of projects and take necessary measurements.
- Provide leadership in executing projects of other engineers and designers
- Support Construction activities related to Piping on site for potentially extended assignments.
- Possess a pro-active attitude and basic knowledge of other disciplines such as Civil, Structural and E&I.
- Work from rough sketches and specifications created by engineers.
- Specify dimensions, materials, and procedures for new products.
- Prepare multiple versions of designs for review by engineers and architects in a timely fashion.
- Work under the supervision of engineers.
- Interdisciplinary check of all Civil/Structural/Piping/Mechanical/Electrical/Instrumentation drawings.
- Review of vendor drawings for Equipment/Package items.
- Produce draft designs and diagrams according to the given specifications.
- Assist and coordinate with designers and engineers.
- Modify and revise designs to correct operation deficiencies
- Prepare drawings for sheet metal components.
- Compile data and specifications sheets.
- Revise drawings and layouts to accommodate changes and enhancements.
- Accommodate safety procedures and issues in installation and construction drawings.

Desired Skills and Experience
- Technical qualification or equivalent.
- 10 – 15 years’ related experience.
- Hands-on experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software.
- Familiarity with 2D, 3D modeling tools.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- A team player and having an ability to interact effectively with client’s organization and others disciplines in our taskforce.
- Work within a task force for the realization of multi-discipline projects in close cooperation with vendors and clients to translate functional specifications into technical solutions.
- Must be well organized with the ability to multi-task and have good communication (written and oral) skills.
- Demonstrated ability to think and work independently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be client-focused and advancement oriented.
- Must be proficient or familiar with various software, such as Business software: Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)
